Falmouth in the Falmouth Taxis area is a thriving town on the magnificent Fal estuary on Cornwall’s south coast. Falmouth’s harbour is one of the largest natural harbours in the world and is the third deepest. It also boasts as being Cornwall’s leading south coast resort.

Go to the twin castles of Pendennis and St Mawes which guard the entrance to the harbour and can be visited all year round, using Falmouth Taxis. Pendennis castle offers a journey of 450 years of history from a Tudor garrison to a second world war base. It also has some of the most magnificent panoramic views of the surrounding area. It is easily reached using Falmouth Taxis.

It was Charles II who named the town Falmouth and the port was originally developed by the Killigrew family whose mansion, Arwenack, stills remains as part of Grove Place. There is an obelisk that honours the family which was erected in 1737. Falmouth then flourished as the second busiest port in the UK. It became the home port of the Royal Mail Packet ships. These ships sailed and carried mail to Spain and the Mediterranean. By 1705 they were also delivering mail to as far afield as the West Indies. By 1817 there was a fleet of over forty ships carrying passengers as well as mail. It is easy to tour the area using Falmouth Taxis; ask about 'touring rates' most of the Falmouth Taxis will have one.

As the packet ships declined the Falmouth Taxis area continued to flourish with the introduction of the electric telegraph – this meant that ships could call in to get their orders for the delivery of their cargoes.

The railway finally arrived in the Falmouth Taxis area in 1863 – this then meant that Falmouth began its growth towards being one of Cornwall’s most visited tourist towns. The first purpose built hotel for tourists was built in 1865.

It is now a vibrant and successful town with a university on the Tremough campus, an internationally renowned Art Gallery and many sub tropical gardens; all worth a visit by Falmouth Taxis.

It is twinned with Douaranenez in Britanny and Rotenburg (Wumme) in Germany. It is also building cultural links with Villagarcia in Spain. It is a vibrant place to base oneself for touring the area, especially by Falmouth Taxis.
